Grimur Atlason is the current manager of Iceland Airwaves music festival. The festival takes place in Reykjavik, Iceland during the first weekend of November every year. This will be his fourth year managing Iceland Airwaves, which was established in 1999. During his time as manager, Grimur has worked with Björk, Sigur Rós, Robyn, Beach House, Kraftwerk, John Grant, FM Belfast, Haim and manyothers.
Grimur has been promoting bands since he was 16. From his first gig with Happy Mondays to acting manager of Retro Stefson, he’s worked with hundreds of bands in between. Sonic Youth, Morrissey, Antony and The Johnsons, Belle and Sebastian just to name a few.
Just like many Icelanders, Grimur has worn many “hats”. He earned his degree in Developmental Therapy and worked in Denmark and Iceland. He’s also been the mayor of two Icelandic municipalities. If you ever want to find him, you don’t have to look too far, he’s 6’7” and can be easily spotted from a mile away.
