Marion Leonard is a senior lecturer in the School of Music at the University of Liverpool where she is also a member of the Institute of Popular Music, a research center dedicated to popular music studies. She is the author of Gender in the Music Industry (2007), a book which examines how notions of gender affect the everyday experiences of rock musicians. Her current research is concerned with women music industry professionals and creative labour. It explores how gendered discourses intersect with working conditions, role assignment and career trajectories. She has also published broadly in the field of popular music studies and has co-edited the books Liverpool, Popular Music and the Changing City (2010) and Sites of Popular Music Heritage: Memories, Histories, Places (2014). She has served on the executive committee of the International Association for the Study of Popular Music and worked on secondment to National Museums Liverpool as lead curator for The Beat Goes On, an exhibition about Liverpool’s popular music history.
